Peugeot e-308 EV Hatchback and SW electric cars coming in 2023.

Peugeot is ready to expand its 308 lineup with an all-electric model.

The new model will be available as a hatchback body as well as a SW version based on an electrified version of the EMP2 architecture.

Plans for an EV compact hatchback variant were declassified by Peugeot product director Jerome Micheron, but more information about the future model has emerged today.

Design changes inside and outside will be minimal.

Initially, it was thought that the EMP2 platform for the Peugeot 308, DS 4 and Opel Astra would only be available in ICE and PHEV form.

However, starting with its passenger vans, which use an extended version of the same architecture, Stellantis has equipped them with a higher-capacity battery and electric motors, turning them into electric cars.

Peugeot says the e-308 will offer more range and higher power output than the smaller e-208 thanks to a more efficient drivetrain.

A single front electric motor will reportedly produce 154 hp and 270 Nm, transferring power to the front axle.

Power will be stored in a 400-volt underground battery with a capacity of 50 kWh and the ability to quickly charge 100 kW.

The new NMC811 battery chemistry provides an efficiency of 12.4 kWh/100 km.

According to project manager Agnès Tesson-Fager, this will be the best result among competitors.

According to Autocar, the e-308 will have a range of 402 km, which matches the rumored range of the upcoming Tesla compact.

Despite the heavier battery, the lack of an ICE engine will result in a weight of 1,600 kg, which is similar to the plug-in hybrid variant. The hatchback’s trunk volume is expected to be 361 liters.

The E-308 will share its base with its all-electric Opel Astra-e counterpart, which is confirmed to debut in 2023.

Autocar reports that production of the electric Peugeot will begin in July 2023.

The first deliveries will follow shortly thereafter. The French model will compete with the VW ID.3 and Nissan Leaf, the Renault Megane E-Tech, and the upcoming Tesla C-Segment hatchback.

The company expects the e-308 to account for a significant share of sales of the 308 lineup.

Peugeot CEO Linda Jackson said electric versions already account for up to 20 percent of the brand’s total sales.
