Peugeot Inception: steering wheel by wires, disco club aesthetics, 680 hp and 3 seconds to a hundred.

The forgotten in the USA French brand Peugeot has shown at the CES in Las Vegas a concept-manifest Inception with a very interesting interior, many elements of which we will see on serial cars in a couple of years.

The Peugeot brand left the U.S. in 1991 and had plans for a comeback until last year, but after the formation of the Stellantis corporation priorities have changed and the European market will remain the main market for Peugeot in the next decade.

By 2030, Peugeot plans to completely switch to electric cars in Europe and become the leading manufacturer in the region.

The new technological capabilities of the parent corporation Stellantis and the cool design demonstrated by the Inception concept sedan, its name translated from Latin as «beginning», will help achieve this ambitious goal.

In almost one-volume and angular shape of Peugeot Inception with openwork front body pillars, the motives of the 70-s and even early Soviet constructivism are guessed, but technical stuffing and materials are the most that is modern.

Overall length of Peugeot Inception is 5 m and height is 1,34 m. There are no central body pillars and rear doors open against the main move.

The hood cover is very short and sliding, under it there is a charging slot. The headlights and lights are styled as claws, as if piercing the body. Instead of mirrors, of course, cameras are used.

The upper part of the body is a peculiar glass dome with an area of 7.2 m2, it is made of special reflective architectural glass with pearlescent coating, creating in a mainly monochrome interior marvelous color iridescence, changing depending on the time of day and the angle of light.

The wheel hubs are topped with fixed caps in the form of the Peugeot emblem and do not rotate while driving.

The interior of the concept is intended to show the advantages of electric car architecture, in which the technical stuffing takes up very little space.

There is no dashboard as such, and the wide multimedia screen is moved as far forward as possible to give the front seaters more space.

Hypersquare folding rectangular steering wheel with rounded edges reminds a portable game console: round holes — these are touch multifunctional joysticks, and in the center there is a screen.

The steering wheel is not physically connected to the wheels and is attached to a small flat console with a circular dashboard on the upper plane — it displays information not only for the driver, but also for those outside the car.

In autopilot mode (claimed level 4), the steering wheel is removed and there is even more space in front.

The interior is decorated in the style of clubs of the 70’s — spacious cubic seats are provided with massive quilted headrests, bare galvanized metal with pearlescent sheen combines with mirror surfaces and upholstery made of recycled polyester.

Focal audio system with two subwoofers in the floor is organically installed in the perimeter of the cabin — the atmosphere of a disco while driving is guaranteed.

Peugeot Inception is based on the STLA Large modular electric vehicle platform, first announced in 2021.

The power plant consists of two electric motors (one per axle) with a combined capacity of 500 kW (680 hp), acceleration to 100 km/h takes less than three seconds. The 800-volt battery with a capacity of 100 kWh provides up to 800 km on a single charge.

Theoretically, Peugeot Inception could turn into a new Peugeot 508 in a few years, but the French brand doesn’t call the concept a precursor of any specific model, but promises to introduce an electric car with a Hypersquare corded steering wheel before the end of the current decade.

Other elements of the concept design we will see on Peugeot production models after 2025, and before that the French brand will have time to present five new electric cars.
