Peugeot Landtrek 2021: the French equivalent of the Chinese pickup.
With the active participation of Chinese specialists, the Peugeot concern has developed a new multifunctional car Peugeot Landtrek 2020-2021 in the «pickup» body, identical in construction and design to the Chinese prototype — Changan F70.
The novelty is announced in the category of mid-size cars of a budget level, with optimal cargo, speed and consumption characteristics.
The new model will be offered in simplified versions with one- and two-row cabs, as well as in a top-end four-door version with a more comfortable interior and improved off-road characteristics of the chassis.
Exterior
Taking into account the budgetary status, the new Landtrack 2021 pickup is decorated in a classic functional style, complemented by recognizable details of the corporate body decor.
The Peugeot Landtrek 2021 looks the most impressive in the most advantageous frontal projection. In sight:
• full-size panoramic windscreen glazing;
• dynamic longitudinal profiles of a massive hood rounded along the front edge;
• multifunctional optics equipped with running lights;
• wide chrome-plated perimeter and coarse-mesh trapezoidal radiator cladding.
The layout of the lower part of the raised front end includes a set of wedge-shaped diffusers with built-in decorative inserts and round fog lamps, a compact plastic body kit and a shaped metal panel, which is entrusted with protective and decorative functions.
In the photo in profile, the Landtrack model of 2021 attracts attention by the massive silver rails fixed on the sloping roof, the chrome-plated semi-perimeter of the side windows, the oval configuration of stylish mirrors and a large number of ribbed relief spread over the entire area of the sides.
Smooth corners of square wheel arches, a compact footrest and a typical pattern of off-road 18-inch reinforced rims organically fit into the functional layout of the sidewalls.
There are no non-standard design details in the rear of the body. Its basic configuration includes a tailgate, vertical multifunctional lights mounted on the side racks and a figured bumper with towing eyes.
Interior
The future owners of the new pickup will be pleasantly surprised by the quality of the interior materials and the extended functionality of the technical and, to a large extent, electronic equipment. Modern equipment will allow the planned restyling to be postponed to a later date.
• The upper segment of the sports multifunction steering wheel, supplemented by blocks of command buttons, offers a full view of the instrument panel, which combines a set of arrow indicators and a color display of the standard computer.
• Above the center console there is a wide-screen monitor of a multimedia complex standard in terms of output characteristics.
• In the middle there is a block of ventilation and heating deflectors. The lower tier is reserved for the placement of the onboard options control panels.
The transmission selector and travel mode switches are located on the tide adjacent to the torpedo. A tunnel with organizers, a spacious glove compartment hidden under the armrest and a handbrake lever can be considered as a separate unit.
The interior equipment includes: effective climate control, electronic assistants, running stabilizers, cruise control and active safety systems.
The budget status of the pickup is confirmed by the moderate service of the front, and in the five-seater saloon and rear seats.
Cloth or leather-mite front seats will be able to offer lateral support, standard performance settings and a heated seat circuit. The passengers of the rear three-seater sofa will feel a little less comfortable.
Specifications
Depending on the roominess of the cabin, the length of the pickup varies in the range of 5330-5390 mm, the standard width for all modifications is 1963, and the height is 1858 mm. Running and off-road characteristics are provided by the chassis base extended up to 3180 mm and the ground clearance from 214 to 235 mm.
The new body is highly resistant to a wide range of operational loads. The Peugeot Landtrack 2021 benefits from a reinforced frame, a universal platform with rear or all-wheel drive, disc brakes and an elastic combined suspension. There are only two models in the motor range.
• The first version is a turbocharged 2.4-liter Mitsubishi petrol engine with an output of 218 hp / 320 Nm. In the second — a 1.9-liter Isuzu turbodiesel with a capacity of 150 hp / 350 Nm of peak torque.
• Power units are equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission from Getrag or a 6-band automatic transmission Punch Powerglide.
With this tandem, the pickup can tow a trailer with a payload of up to 1.3 tons. The test drive confirmed the initial and optimal consumption and operating parameters of power equipment provided by the manufacturer.
Options and prices
Judging by the official information, the Peugeot concern intends to maintain a stable demand for its products due to the expanded range.
The new Peugeot Landtrack 2021 model year is planned for production in several transitional and top-end modifications.
The cost of the new pickup has not been announced. Drawing a parallel with the Chinese counterpart, the price of the novelty in ruble equivalent will vary in the range of 950,000-1,200,000 units of the Russian currency.
Competing models
The parameters of the new budget pickup truck are significantly inferior to similar models of the world’s leading manufacturers. Nevertheless, the affordable cost allows Toyota Hilux, Volkswagen Amarok, Mitsubishi L200, Fiat Fullback and the Russian SUV UAZ Pickup to be added to the list of rivals.
