Polestar 5 2024.

The Polestar 5 sports sedan showed its power at Goodwood: 884 hp and supercar technology.

The Swedish-Chinese competitor to the Porsche Taycan arrived at the British Festival of Speed at Goodwood in prototype status and will be pounding the hill climb section throughout the weekend.

The Polestar 5’s maximum power output of 650 kW (884 hp) and 900 Nm has been announced for the first time.

Polestar 5 is a future production version of the concept Polestar Precept model of 2020, its production in China will start in 2024, and full-scale premiere will take place before the end of 2023.

The development of the chassis and body Polestar 5 is conducted in the British technology park MIRA in Naniton (Warwickshire), which belongs to the Japanese company Horiba (here, by the way, are based on several electric car startups), and two-motor propulsion system (one engine on each axis) is developing the main technical center in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The Polestar 5 sedan is destined to be the technological flagship of the Swedish brand, which broke away from parent company Volvo in 2017: the sport sedan will be the first to receive a unique platform developed specifically for Polestar, while the crossovers Polestar 3 and Polestar 4, which will come to market earlier, will be based on common with Volvo and Geely «bogies».

The body of the Polestar 5 consists mainly of aluminum components (stamped, cast and extruded), bonded mainly with the help of glue, a technology that has long been tested on Lotus sports cars (Lotus Cars today is also part of the Chinese holding company Geely).

The developers promise that the Polestar 5 will have torsional rigidity on the level of the best modern supercars and low center of gravity will allow achieving excellent handling.

At the same time, the Polestar 5 will not be a hardcore «sportsman» and will offer future owners a high level of comfort and practicality, that is, the role of a car for every day it will definitely suit.

Declared today, 884 hp. — This is more than the top Porsche Taycan Turbo S (761 hp), which accelerates to 100 km/h for 2.8 seconds, but the leader in this class is still three-motor Tesla Model S Plaid — 1020 hp and 2.1 seconds to «hundred.

The American liftback also holds the current Nürburgring record in the class of production electric cars.

At Goodwood, Polestar 5 rolls around in camouflage «wrapping», although the photo of the stern without makeup Swedish brand published a week before the festival and sport sedan profile was shown in November last year.

We believe that before the full premiere there will be published a few more teasers Polestar 5 to fuel interest in the novelty.

Presented in March concept coupe-cabriolet Polestar O2 also arrived at Goodwood, but will not participate in the races — while it is a model, but it could turn into a production model on a smaller version of the aluminum platform Polestar 5.

The fate of the Polestar O2, probably, will depend on whether or not the brand will meet the objectives, chief among which is to reach the end of 2025 to the level of sales of 290,000 cars a year.

As of last year, Polestar sold only 29 thousand electric cars in the world, but in April of this year it signed a big contract with a rental company Hertz for delivery of 65 thousand Polestar 2 cross-liftbacks.
