Startup Qoshcar Automotive presented the project of the first Kazakh electric car.

Kazakhstan may start production of the first national electric car.

The project will be handled by a small local start-up, Qoshcar Automotive.

It is curious that the word «Qoshkar» («Koshkar») in the Kazakh language is used to mean «strong and strong male in a flock of sheep.»

This company was founded quite recently — in the twenty-second.

Its head is Ilyas Zholaman, 37, who previously sold premium cars and real estate in Kazakhstan, but has no experience in the automotive industry.

So far, the newly-created company has only six people on its staff.

Three of them were born in Kazakhstan, and the rest are Russians. All startup employees have extensive experience in the automotive industry.

Among them there are several famous designers — Svyatoslav Sahakyan, Alexey Ivashkevich and Vasily Kurkov.

Specifically, Sahakyan made a career at ZiL and AZLK, and currently teaches at MAMI.

In turn, Ivashkevich is one of the creators of several Renault models.

Plus, he also had a hand in the Aurus limousine. Well, Kurkov previously worked in a number of large European firms, and was also noted for his participation in the Chinese startup NIO.

Under what conditions it was possible to attract all these specialists to Qoshcar Automotive is not specified.

However, they face a very difficult task, namely, to organize the assembly of modern unique hybrids and electric cars in Kazakhstan.

The startup’s first model should be the GT Vision 1 hatchback, and several renderings of the ambitious project have already been published online.

These images show that the car has a rather catchy sporty exterior design with a sloping roofline.

The doors of the concept are arranged asymmetrically: the right leaf is shifted back, which, as planned, is designed to facilitate boarding / disembarking. And the model does not have a front passenger seat.

In Qoshcar Automotive, they can create a platform for the model on their own, or they can give its development to one of the international companies.

One way or another, later on this “cart” they want to build several models of the Kazakh brand at once — from a roadster to an all-terrain station wagon.

It is expected that the Qoshcar GT Vision 1 hatchback will cost around $100,000 (7.7 million rubles at the current exchange rate).

For Kazakhstan and the CIS countries, the model will be offered as a hybrid. But in the USA, China and the countries of the Arabian Peninsula, it will be offered already as a full-fledged electric car.

As conceived by the founder of the startup, the hatch will be assembled at its own enterprise in Kazakhstan, which will be built from scratch.

At first, the capacity of the plant will allow to produce at least 4,000 cars annually.

According to the plans, the company should start assembling cars in the next 2-3 years. In general, the plans of the «Kazakhs» are ambitious, but for their implementation it is necessary to find investors.

This is exactly what Zholaman is doing now: the startup needs $2.0 million (154.0 million rubles) to build the first prototype alone.

In parallel, the company’s employees are also working on creating their own charging station and infrastructure for electric cars. This should increase the attractiveness of the project for investors.
