A new electric successor to the Range Rover Velar crossover is expected before 2025.

The entire automotive world is looking forward to the new all-electric version of the Range Rover Velar, which will give it a great chance to capture market share held by the electric Porsche Macan EV.

The new Velar will get an electric skateboard platform instead of the outdated one, and its batteries at the bottom will have an impressive voltage of 800 volts.

According to information from the portal kolesa.ru, the performance of the new cross will be impressive, but the exact specifications are still kept secret.

Production of the successor generation is scheduled to begin next year at the Halewood facility, with production planned until 2025.

The Velar architecture was originally announced in 2021 and the manufacturing process will be upgraded for electric vehicles.

The new Range Rover Velar is expected to be a lower cost model but will continue to represent its segment in the electric vehicle market.

It will compete with the electric Porsche Macan EV, which is expected to hit the market soon.

The premiere of new items is scheduled for next year. Probably, it will be equipped with two electric motors.

The total performance can reach 612 horsepower.

As reported, disguised prototypes of new items will appear in October for testing.

The car will use technology, perhaps borrowed from the Range Rover, but still stay within its size category.

Both crossovers have their advantages, and only time will tell which one will become more popular among buyers.

Land Rover introduced the mid-size crossover Range Rover Velar in 2017, in 2020 it underwent a technical upgrade, and V-engines disappeared from the range.

Instead of a multitude of displays, minimalism took over — on the front panel there is a central curved «floating» multimedia touchscreen with a diagonal of 11.4 inches (there is now no separate screen for controlling the air conditioning system).

The British manufacturer a couple of years ago reported that the «green» successors will appear in the Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Discovery Sport.

At the same time, the future of the Range Rover Velar remained vague for quite some time, but this spring the company confirmed that the expensive crossover will change generations, while its “stuffing” will be completely electric.

The successor to the Range Rover Velar will be built at the company’s plant in Halewood, UK, according to Autocar.

It is known that this site is waiting for modernization and re-equipment (due to the transition to electric vehicles), work will start next year.

It is assumed that the novelty will get on the updated conveyor until 2025.

Note that the current Velar is a “relative” of the Jaguar F-Pace, both crossovers are produced at the JLR plant in Solihull.

According to the publication, the next generation Range Rover Velar will replace the current D7 “cart” with the EMA skateboard platform (it was announced in 2021).

It is expected that the novelty will have a design with 800-volt traction batteries located in the floor.

The company also promised the crossover powerful electric motors with high torque, but the exact characteristics are still kept secret.

Disguised prototypes of the Range Rover Velar’s successor are expected to hit the roads in the coming months and be sent for testing.

Probably, in the design of the model, some of the solutions will be borrowed from Range Rover, but the model will remain within its overall category, and it will also be cheaper for buyers.

The Porsche Macan EV is tipped to rival the successor to the Range Rover Velar. Recall that this electric car of the German brand has not yet entered the market, its premiere is scheduled for 2024.

This crossover will be based on the PPE (Premium Platform Electric) platform, it will be equipped with a twin-engine power plant — one upgraded electric motor on each axle. As previously reported, the total system power of the Macan EV will be 612 hp and maximum torque of 1000 Nm.

According to preliminary data, the “green” Porsche crossover will be offered only one traction battery option – a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 100 kWh.

True, the range of the future novelty in the company has not yet been declassified. It should be noted that for the Porsche Taycan electric train, this figure is 93 kWh, and the power reserve of this model is 505 km.
