Renault is preparing to update the Clio: the first image of the hatchback.

It is expected that the refreshed compact “five-door” of the French brand will debut in the spring of this year and go on sale in early summer.

The history of Renault Clio began in 1990; over the past decades, the model has managed to change generations several times. The hatchback of the current fifth generation appeared in 2019.

The model still remains one of the most sought after in the European market, although over the past few years its sales have been declining.

According to Carsalesbase statistics, for January-November 2022 (data for the whole year are not yet available), dealers sold 124,859 copies, which is 31.2% less than in the first 11 months of the previous year.

Now the model is waiting for a planned restyling, the prototypes were sent to various tests.

It is assumed that the refreshed compact «five-door» will debut in the spring of this year and go on sale in early summer.

There is no word yet on what the updated model will look like.

The designer of the Spanish edition of motor.es offered his own version of the potential appearance of the future Renault Clio.

It is assumed that most of the visual changes will fall on the front of the «five-door».

Probably, the recently introduced Renault Austral crossover will influence the exterior design.

Judging by the render, the models can change the head optics. It is possible that LED curved «fangs» will be left only in the form of a pattern, «inscribed» in the boomerangs, which are located on the sides.

They can be echoed by similarly designed “foglights” integrated into the lower part of the front bumper.

The headlights are interconnected by a luminous strip, in the center of which is the updated Renault logo in the form of a recognizable diamond.

Below you can see an enlarged grille, the design of which is obviously inspired by the Austral model.

The air intake at the bottom may be left in its original shape, it will probably have a pattern in the form of horizontal slats.

Judging by the image, the stampings on the hood, as well as the profile of the updated Clio, will remain the same.

The only noticeable change is the side mirrors, which are also attached to the doors on separate legs, but their bodies are painted black.

It is expected that the stern will be “refreshed” due to retouched lamps of the previous form and a more “smoothed” rear bumper.

The interior is likely to get some updates. Probably, the front panel will be unified with other current models of the French brand.

The interior is expected to have new, better finishing materials (including both textiles and plastic), as well as other decor.

In addition, the refreshed hatchback can get an upgraded Easy-Link multimedia system with a new interface and a wider list of functions.

According to the publication, due to the tightening of economic standards in Europe, the updated Renault Clio engine lineup will get rid of diesels, so that there will be options using gasoline, natural gas, as well as a hybrid version.

The maximum output of such a power plant will probably not exceed 145 hp. The pair will most likely offer a six-speed manual transmission.
