Renault Megane E-Tech Electric 2022 — electric crossover with a range of almost 500 km.
Not so long ago (in the second week of September) the International Automobile Exhibition in Munich IAA Mobility presented to the public a few pieces of modern transportation equipment for review.
Among the presented «exhibits» stood out a car that has high potential in the future. The creation belongs to the French corporation Renault, namely the «green» model Renault Megane E-Tech Electric.
This is a 5-door and full electric vehicle with off-road qualities. In fact, the car is a serial implementation of the existing concept car Renault Megane eVision.
The first generation Megane began to roll off the assembly line 26 years ago, and now the engineers have decided to change the usual traction power from the internal combustion engine to the electric alternative.
Although the 4th generation of this family is still in circulation since 2015 and is not yet completed, the manufacturer has made a new bet with an emphasis on electricity.
Appearance
The novelty is radically different from the previous models — there is nothing in common between them.
The body of the production car from Renault turned out catchy and aggressive in appearance.
This is achieved thanks to the sharp features of the body, as well as the narrow shape of the head optics and taillights, which turned out quite developed.
Another center of attention is the corporate logo, which the developers have decided to change, due to the full transition to the electric traction.
The form itself remains the same, its construction has changed.
What is characteristic, Renault Megane E-Tech Electric 2022 model year Western mass media unanimously called it a crossover, not just a passenger car.
Moreover, the official press release does not contain such definition, but a number of details cling to it:
large wheel arches;
wheel size is 20″ (base models have 18″);
the beltline is planted high;
short overhangs.
With such external data it is difficult not to associate the novelty with a crossover — its appearance already speaks for itself.
But separate attention is still worth the front bumper — in its lower part engineers introduced a dark plug with a three-dimensional ornament.
In this case, the bumper itself, both front and rear, including the side vents, painted in titanium warm tone.
Interior and equipment
When designing the interior, Renault designers have taken the OpenR concept, which has been honed on various prototypes over the past few years.
Accordingly, the interior, too, has been affected by certain changes.
Instead of a traditional dashboard, now its digital counterpart — the display size of 12.3″.
The central panel houses a multimedia tablet with OpenR Link based on the operating system Android Automotive.
Depending on the package, the screen will be 9″ or 12″ diagonal. If not for the ventilation duct between the two monitors, we would get a single surface.
The manufacturer offers three options of equipment — Equilibre, Techno, Iconic. The materials for the interior trim are recycled, which include:
synthetic fabric;
plastic;
leather.
The most expensive version Megane Electric 2022 has adaptive cruise control system, interior rear view mirror, where the screen is built in — it displays the image broadcasted by the rear view camera.
In addition, the interior is illuminated by extended contour lighting with 48 shades.
In addition, the crossover is equipped with machine vision technology with 26 systems. Such equipment is equivalent to an autopilot II level.
Harman/Kardon sound system is at the disposal of audiophiles. Various electronic assistants are provided to help the driver.
The driver has a multifunctional steering wheel with different keys to control the car’s options. These include both physical and touch buttons.
The latter can select a number of multimedia options. That is, despite the latest fashion trends, which some manufacturers adhere to, Renault specialists decided not to abandon the use of traditional controls.
Technical Specifications
As the basis was taken the same modular platform, which is based on the electric car Nissan Ariya. For its development are responsible specialists of three companies — Renault, Nissan, Mitsubishi.
The bogie is designed for large cars and is optimized for the placement of electrical equipment — all of it is in the front.
A multilever system can be installed on the rear axle, and the chassis can be all-wheel drive (a motor on each axle). The new model will only have front-wheel drive. Its dimensions are shown in the table below.

For the crossover Renault Megane manufacturer has prepared two options for power plant:
An electric motor with 130 hp and 250 Nm of torque + a 40 kW∙h traction battery. Estimated range is 300 km (according to the WLTP cycle).
Electric towing power, producing 218 hp and 300 Nm of torque. Battery capacity — 60 kW∙h, which should provide a range of about 470 km, on a single charge.
Acceleration to a hundred in a car with a powerful installation will take 7.4 seconds. The maximum speed is 160 km/h (limited by electronics).
Competitors
The main rival in the market of cars with electric traction power is the Volkswagen ID.3 model. This «German» is ahead of the Renault Zoe and Kia Niro in sales.
VW sold 5,433 units on the European market. Renault’s task is to regain the honorary title of Europe’s best-selling electric car with its brainchild, the Megane E-Tech Electric.
Release Date and Prices
The process to assemble the new electric «Frenchman» will be set up at the production facilities in Douai. It has undergone reconstruction, and now there will be collected 400 000 units of equipment per year.
And besides Renault Megane the plant will produce other electric cars. From February of the next year will begin accepting applications, and the cost will also become known. The sales themselves will start in March.
