Renault Megane eVision: a harbinger of the future hatchback.
Together with the budgetary electric five-door Dacia Spring, the French Renault Group presented the Megane eVision hatchback, a concept car that should turn into a production car next year.

The creators claim that the Renault Megane eVision is 95% ready for mass production, so there is every reason to believe that the electric car, which will soon reach the conveyor, will differ from the concept only in details.

Instead of frameless doors, side cameras, 20-inch wheels, matrix headlights and recessed door handles, there will likely be more traditional counterparts.

Renault Megane eVision is built on the new modular platform CMF-EV, designed specifically for electric vehicles, and will form the basis of a whole family of models of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance, which will be presented in the coming years.

At the same time, the electric hatchback has become noticeably more compact than the current Megan: length — 4210 mm instead of 4359 mm, width — 1800 mm against 1814 mm. However, the height is now greater: 1505 mm instead of 1447 mm.

And between the axles, the five-door has an impressive 2700 mm for a car of this size (the current Megan has 2669 mm), which promises space in the cabin. It’s a pity, there are no images of the interior yet.

The concept is equipped with an electric motor on the front axle that produces 217 hp. and 300 Nm. It is stated that it takes less than eight seconds to accelerate to 100 km / h.

The creators are in no hurry to announce the power reserve on one charge of a traction battery with a capacity of 60 kW • h, but they assure that it will be enough for a trip from London to Newcastle (about 450 km) in the same time as driving a traditional car with internal combustion engines, even with taking into account stops.

It is possible that the future competitor to the Volkswagen ID.3 electric hatchback will subsequently acquire several options for power plants, including for the sporty RS modification — engineers will tell about all the details in about a year.

And the current Renault Megane of the fourth generation, apparently, will retire without a direct successor: an electric car will take its place in the range of the French brand.

According to Renault CEO Luca de Meo, Megane eVision is 95% in line with the appearance of the production car, which will enter the assembly line at the end of 2021.

De Meo recalled that a huge number of modifications were presented in the Megane family at one time: hatchbacks with three and five doors, a station wagon, a sedan, a convertible and a Scenic compact van.

On the basis of the Megane eVision, many different cars will also be released, but already completely electric. And this time the line will definitely be replenished with a crossover.

The concept is built on the new CMF-EV platform, which in the future will form the basis for many of the company’s models. The crossover Nissan Ariya is also built on it.

The Megane eVision uses one of the thinnest batteries on the market and an ultra-compact electric motor to maximize interior and trunk space.
