Rolls-Royce Ghost 2021: the next generation of the sedan.

The beginning of September was marked by the premieres of several bright car new products. However, the presentation of the 2021 Rolls-Royce Ghost luxury sedan stands out among them.

The most popular model of the luxury British brand has stepped into its second generation, moving to a new aluminum platform, gaining a more dynamic silhouette and receiving the latest advanced equipment.

After modernization Rolls-Royce Ghost has risen in price: now its price is 250 thousand pounds (about 25 million rubles) against the previous 190 thousand. The timing of the start of sales of the updated car in Russia will become known later.

New design

Unlike its predecessor, which used the BMW 7-Series platform, the new sedan is technically unified with the Phantom and Cullinan models.

All three vehicles are based on an aluminum spaceframe on which the body panels are mounted. The change in architecture has led to an increase in the external dimensions of the Gost.

The length increased by 147 mm (up to 5546 mm), the width — by 30 mm (up to 1978 mm), the height — by 21 mm (up to 1571 mm). The wheelbase remains the same — 3295 mm.

The appearance of the novelty is decided in the style of Post Opulence, which implies the rejection of excessive pretentiousness and overloading of details.

Although the philosophy is new, it does not imply any revolutions, so we have the same classic Rolls-Royce.

In pursuit of minimalism, the developers have removed the individual sections of the running lights at the front, integrating them into the main headlights.

A laser-phosphor high beam was also built here, which provides visibility at a distance of up to 600 meters.

The corporate rectangular grille has been retained, but the decor has been changed and the structure of the vertical slats has been corrected. 20 LEDs are used to illuminate the slots between the lamellas.

And, of course, attention is drawn to the metamorphoses associated with the «Spirit of Ecstasy» statuette. It was first placed on the hood, and not on the false radiator frame.

The aft lanterns were revised. Their shape is the same, but the graphics are somewhat different, and the outline is less accented.

Interior

Access to the Rolls-Royce Ghost salon is opened, as before, through the doors swinging open in different directions.

Only now they are equipped with an intelligent drive system that takes into account the slope of the road surface.

The doors can be unlocked automatically by pressing a button, but another mode is standard, when the electric drive simply helps a person who opens or closes the door manually.

The doors are fixed in any position.
The redesigned sedan has received a number of interesting new options. Among them:

Virtual instrument cluster;

Spot illumination of the front panel with the effect of a starry sky (provided by 152 diodes);

Micro Environment Purification System ultrafine air filtration;

Bespoke acoustics with 18 speakers (power 1300 W).

GOST was also endowed with the most modern electronic assistants, including active cruise control, all-round cameras, automatic valet parking, detection of pedestrians and animals at any time of the day, control of traffic lane, emergency braking and warning of interference when reversing.

The manufacturer places particular emphasis on improving sound insulation. Everything here is worked out to the smallest detail, so that a minimum of extraneous sounds get into the cabin.

Adequate absorption of noise and vibration is made possible by the use of up to 100 kg of insulating materials.

At the same time, there is still no absolute silence inside, since the complete absence of sounds creates no less severe discomfort than a high noise level.

It is curious that even the configuration of the trunk affects the acoustic background, the volume of which, by the way, is 507 liters.

Rolls-Royce Ghost 2021 Specifications

The new Ghost inherited the powertrain from the «older» Rolls-Royce Phantom. The 6.75-liter V12 biturbo engine produces 571 hp. and 850 Nm.

It is installed slightly behind the front axle, which provides an ideal 50:50 weight distribution. The engine is accompanied by an 8-speed «automatic» ZF, which takes into account the readings of the navigation system in its work.

A sedan weighing 2490 kg accelerates to 100 km / h in 4.8 seconds, and the top speed of the model does not exceed 250 km / h. Average fuel consumption is stated at 15.2-15.7 liters per 100 km.

The asset of the «second» Gost is also a four-wheel drive with a front axle coupling and a fully-controlled chassis.

The default suspension is adaptive pneumatic with the intricate name Planar Suspension System. Double levers are used at the front, and a five-lever at the back.

The signals to the actuators that correct the body position come from stereo cameras that are installed behind the windshield. This technology works at speeds up to 100 km / h.
