Rolls Royce unveiled its first production electric car, the Rolls Royce Spectre 2024

The Rolls Royce Spectre EV 2024 is a luxury land yacht with a range of 520 kilometers.

120 years after Rolls Royce founder Charles Rolls first discussed the idea of an electric Roller, the Rolls Royce Spectre 2024 electric production car has been released.

The Spectre is a luxury coupe that will take its place between the Cullinan SUV and the Phantom limousine in terms of price. There are no exact prices for this new model yet.

With an impressive wheelbase of 3,210 mm and a huge weight of 2,975 kg, the Spectre is built on an aluminum space frame with a giant battery built in, making the coupe 30% stiffer than any previous Rolls Royce.

The company is particularly silent on specs, including the size of the battery pack, but given that the batteries alone weigh 700 kg and allow the Spectre to travel 520 kilometers on WLTP on electric power.

Power peaks at a relatively modest 577 L per 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds.

Visually, the Spectre takes inspiration from older two-door Rolls cars like the Wraith and Phantom coupes, but looks wider and lower than them.

Part of this is due to the low-profile grille, the widest ever fitted to Rolls, one of which is lit by 22 LEDs, and the fashionable arrangement of split headlights.

As in the most expensive cars of BMW’s parent company, the Rolls Royce’s headlights are recessed under a pair of ultra-thin LED DRLs.

Even the iconic Spirit of Ecstasy mascot has been aerodynamically tuned to create a sportier Rolls look, and the shape of the fastback is reminiscent of luxury boats.

And the Spectre has 23-inch wheels — the first time Rolls Royce has such big wheels in nearly 100 years.

Inside, the dashboard architecture is similar to that found in other Rolls Royce cars, but with a digital display on the passenger side. The famous headliner now extends to the doors.

Rolls-Royce has unveiled its first electric car.

The Spectre coupe gets 585 horsepower, 23-inch wheels that are unique for the class, and a traction battery integrated into the chassis that allows driving up to 520 kilometers without recharging.

The Spectre also debuted Decentralised Intelligence, an electronic architecture that enables direct data exchange between all vehicle functions, and the SPIRIT digital architecture with full support for the proprietary Whispers app.

Like the Cullinan, the two-door Spectre doesn’t fit into any existing segment. For the first electric Rolls-Royce, its own class of «ultra-luxury electric supercoupes» has been invented, in which there are simply no other players.

In fact, this is the spiritual successor of the Phantom Coupé and, at the same time, the replacement for the Wraith fastback. In terms of length (more than 5.4 meters), the Spectre is inferior to the standard, not long-wheelbase Ghost, but 7 centimeters superior to the Cadillac Escalade.

It is already known that the Spectre will fall between the Cullinan and Phantom in terms of price. Orders have been taken since today, but deliveries have to wait until the fourth quarter of 2023.

The Spectre is based on the Architecture of Luxury platform with complex extruded aluminum profiles and an integrated traction battery.

The power structure here is 30 percent stiffer than on any other Rolls-Royce. The battery is flush with the underbody, and a special duct is made above it for climate control cables and piping.

The battery on the Spectre not only powers the electric motors, but also acts as a 700-kilogram noise-insulating «gasket» between the road and the interior.

The Spectre debuted a new «Decentralised Intelligence» electronic architecture that allows direct and free-flowing data exchange between all vehicle functions.

The number of on-board electronics subfunctions, compared to the same Phantom, has increased 35-fold; the electric car has five miles more wiring and 25 times more lines of software code.

Each of the 141,200 variables affecting the mechatronics has been given several sub-variables and a special control element — all of which should provide an unprecedented level of comfort and safety.
