The first teaser of upcoming new Skoda. Which, however, will not appear in Europe or in Russia.

The future sedan Skoda Slavia is being prepared specifically for the Indian market, where Volkswagen is implementing its strategy India 2.0: it cost $1 billion and is designed to significantly strengthen the presence of Skoda and Volkswagen brands in the region.

The first stage of this strategy was the release of twin crossovers Volkswagen Taigun / Skoda Kushaq, and the second stage should be sedans.

However, the Skoda Slavia will not be original development. According to preliminary information, it is a redesigned and modified version of the Brazilian model Volkswagen Virtus of 2017.

The Virtus itself will also appear in India, but later. Like the local crossovers, both four-doors will be based on the adapted and simplified MQB-A0-IN platform.

According to preliminary information, under the hood will be turbocharged 1.0 TSI or 1.5 TSI: the first will be paired with a «manual» or classic «automatic», and the second — with a «robot» DSG.

New Slavia will replace the local sedan Skoda Rapid, which, in turn, is a kind of well-known to us Polo-sedan.

However, the Slavia will be bigger, richer and more expensive than the Rapid, that is why the company decided to change its name.

It is taken from the rich heritage of the Czech company, because its founders, Vaclav Laurin and Vaclav Klement, began their business with bicycles, for sale of which the brand Slavia was established back in 1896.

And last year was presented a student concept car Skoda Slavia based on the Skala. The debut of the new sedan will be in December.

Slavia is a very old name. The Skoda brand used it back in 1899 for its motorcycle, which was originally sold by Laurin & Klement.

Last year, the Czech automaker said goodbye to the Slavia with a new unique two-seat speedster. But in 2021, rumors surfaced that a new production car would carry the name again

Now photographers have caught a fully camouflaged prototype in the Alps (photo: motor1.com).

It is expected to use the same MQB-A0-IN platform that underpins the Kushaq, the crossover launched earlier this year.

The model looks bigger than the current Rapid, and we get the impression that it’s closely related to the Volkswagen Virtus, but stands out for its more practical liftback-style body design.

Such a car would not make sense in Europe and would not fit into Skoda’s lineup in Russia.

It is unclear whether the new model will eventually replace the Rapid in the world’s second most populous country.
