Subaru brand will unveil the next-generation Subaru WRX station wagon in Australia

Japanese automaker has announced a Subaru WRX wagon version of the 2022 model year.

In the published press release it is said that the novelty will be firstly received by Australian customers.

The good news is that the 2022 Subaru WRX Sportwagon has already been introduced.

The bad news is that, at least for now, the model is exclusive to Australia.

That’s unfortunate because it looks great and will have a bit more practicality than the sedan body version of the model. The model will go on sale in the second quarter of 2022.

«The WRX Sportswagon offers Australians an additional version of this high-performance car with increased practicality for everyday use,» said Subaru Australia CEO Blair Reed.

«The WRX Sportswagon will be a stand-alone model, with both the sedan and Sportswagon having unique specifications tailored to their audiences.»

Aesthetically, the WRX Sportswagon is largely identical to the Subaru Levorg. The only differences are the underside panel and the wheels.

Subaru has not released any photos of the interior of the WRX Sportswagon.

Presumably, it will get the same sport seats and interior trim as the sedan.

An 11.6-inch infotainment screen is also likely to be available.

It has Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Bluetooth. Customers can upgrade to a Harman Kardon audio system with 11 speakers.

The powertrain is identical to the WRX sedan. That gives it a 2.4-liter opposition four-cylinder engine with 271 hp and 349 Nm of torque.

The engine is mated to either a six-speed manual transmission or a Subaru Performance Transmission variator. Naturally, there is all-wheel drive.

At this point, there is no indication that the WRX Sportswagon will arrive in markets outside of Australia.

The 2022 WRX sedan will go on sale in early 2022.

Not so long ago, our publication wrote that Subaru brand will introduce a new generation Subaru Impreza model in November 2022.

Japanese concern Subaru will present updated generation Impreza in November next year.

Foreign portal Best Car writes about it, referring to the production plan of the brand from Japan.
