The new Geely Coolray 2023.

The Chinese crossover Geely Coolray 2022 (sold in China as the Geely Binye Cool) has undergone the most extensive changes in the history of the model.

The manufacturer has declassified the exterior, interior, and revealed all the details about the technical stuffing, in particular the brand new engine.

Despite the fact that the overall silhouette of the new Geely Coolray has remained the same, the external design has undergone profound changes: new headlights (front and rear), bumpers, grille, sill plates, moldings.

Also the new «trim» increased length of the crossover by 50 mm — up to 4380 mm.

The most global changes have occurred in the interior, it is completely new.

Specialists Geely, following the latest design trends in the global auto industry, visually combined two screens on the center panel: a media system (12.3 inches) and the dashboard (10.25 inches).

The gearshift selector has also changed and a wireless charging option for smartphones has been added.

Major changes have also occurred under the hood — there is a new 1.5L four-cylinder turbo engine (181 hp and 290 Nm) — developed by subsidiary Aurobay (formed by the Volvo and Geely engine divisions).

The previous three-cylinder 1.5 (177 hp, 255 Nm) turbo unit is retired.

Despite the fact that the power differs minimally, the new Coolray became faster (7.6 c to «hundred» instead of the former 7.9) and more economical (58 l/100 km instead of 6.3).

Also the new engine is adapted to the «ninety-second» gasoline. The seven-speed robot with two clutches remains the same, as well as the front-wheel drive.

Long before the premiere, Geely began patenting certain details of the updated Kulray body to the local Ministry of Industry, and published teasers show that the car will look exactly like this.

The designers managed to keep the characteristic profile of the car, but the evolution of the front design with a huge grille and complex configuration of the bumper will externally make the «toy» parkette more formidable «beast».

In addition, it will be increased in length by 50 mm. (4380x1800x1609 mm) and will become more relief, and more sporty character Geely Coolray 2023 of the new generation will demonstrate due to the 181-hp «turbo four», which will accelerate 1350-kilogram car up to 200 km/h.

The trendy parkette changes its appearance to more aggressive, gets a new interior and a new power plant — probably all this will make it twice as «cool», in fact not for nothing the new name of this version now sounds like Coolray Cool.

Except for the redesigned front end, the attention is attracted to the stern: here will appear single element of headlights and rather complicated architecture of the surrounding panels with an abundance of edges and cut lines.

An organic attribute here becomes a «sports» diffuser, located between the two «two-barrels», and completes the image unusual three-dimensional spoiler, which has spectacular fins on each side.

Available images of the interior are still sketchy but suggest that the Coolray Cool gets interior from the youth sedan Binrui Cool with a dual display, new steering wheel of the same shape, modified «door cards» and a more ergonomic casing of the central tunnel.

The gearbox joystick will be reduced in size, the air vents will become thinner, and the buttons of the main functionality will be touch-sensitive and gathered together on a separate protruding panel.

Seats are likely to be changed, which will get a more sporty design.

Technical stuffing and characteristics

The main «technical» acquisition of the new Kulray is a 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder BHE15-EFZ unit with 181 horsepower.

It is claimed that this power unit will accelerate the crossover to a maximum of 200 km/h, but so far it has been confirmed only for cars going to the domestic market.

There will definitely be a new hybrid in the range of motors, but details of the engine lineup update will be made public after the official debut of the crossover.
