A sedan instead of a crossover: new information about the successor to the Toyota Crown has emerged.

It has been almost four years since Toyota introduced the last generation of the Crown sedan.

Therefore, many are expecting the Japanese model to be upgraded soon.

According to rumors, the current version of the Crown will leave the market in May.

Moreover, two years ago it was reported that Japanese model will change its body from sedan to crossover. But the last data says the opposite.

According to the published information, the updated Toyota Crown 2023 will still be available as a sedan.

But in this case we are talking about premium and the most expensive version Majesta. Japanese media have already published a preliminary rendering of the future Crown with the image of a radically changed car.

If Toyota really implements such a design on a serial sedan, it will be about a return to the classic style.

It is reported that the debut of the updated Crown Majesta may take place in the fall of 2022.

Simultaneously with change of a body the Japanese sedan, as expected, will get non-standard for itself motor range.

A number of experts suggest that the Crown will acquire a hybrid unit.

And some sources report that Toyota is considering converting the executive sedan to hydrogen fuel.

Such dramatic changes for the Crown, probably, are due to low demand for the current version of the Japanese model.

The poor sales are more likely due to the fact that Toyota has changed its approach to its positioning in the preparation of the latest modification of the sedan.

Crown today is focused more on the youth market segment, which, in turn, did not accept the Japanese model.

Partly, apparently, that’s why the design of the new Crown is in the classic style.

The name Toyota Crown is one of the oldest in the car industry. The first model appeared in 1955, and now the fifteenth generation Crown is on sale in Japan.

And the form factor of these cars has not changed throughout history: it is a classic car with a longitudinal arrangement of the engine and the «basic» rear-wheel drive.

The Toyota Crown Cross 2023 will differ in other suspension configurations, increased ground clearance to 170 mm, wheel arch extenders and protective plastic moldings on the body.

We shall remind, the new Toyota Crown 2023 will be created on the basis of GA-K platform, which is one of the modifications of TNGA modular architecture. It is used by the new Toyota Camry and Lexus ES.

The automobile will be propelled by a hybrid power-unit, consisting of a 226-horsepower 2,5-liter «atmospheric engine» and an electric motor.

Also the two-liter «turbo four» producing 245 horsepowers will be available. In addition, the novelty can get all-wheel drive e-Four.

Presumably, in Japan, the Toyota Crown Cross 2023 crossover will cost from 5.8 million to 7.3 million yen (about $50,800 to $64,000 at current exchange rates).
