Toyota GR Supra 2023.

A new version of the Toyota GR Supra has made its debut: now also with manual transmission.

Sales of manual versions will start in Europe this summer, and cars will reach dealers in the U.S. and Japan in the fall.

The Japanese company has been producing sports car Supra since 1978, though Toyota stopped production of the fourth generation of the model in 2002.

As a result, the manufacturer still decided to revive the car: its fifth generation was presented at the beginning of 2019 in Detroit.

According to the Carsalesbase website, sales of the model started in the States in the summer of the same year.

Things for the model in this market are generally going well: during the «covid» 2020 dealers sold 5,887 units, and last year the result grew by 16% to 6,830 copies.

We shall remind, the basis of a sports car of the Japanese brand is the German roadster BMW Z4 (G29).

Production of these two models is factory Magna Steyr in Graz (Austria).

The Toyota Supra is equipped with German power units, but the model has its own chassis settings and original design.

For the «fifth» Toyota Supra the company initially provided only one gearbox — eight-speed hydromechanical «automatic machine» ZF.

It is offered in pair with two petrol turbo BMW engines, which are put to Supra — 2,0-liter B48 (efficiency is equal either 197, or 258 h.p.), and 3,0-liter engine B58 (capacity is 340 or 387 h.p.).

Drive of this sports car is exclusively rear.

Rumors that Toyota intends to release GR Supra with manual transmission appeared in some media as early as the summer of 2020: it is known that this version was awaited by fans of the model (sports car of previous generations have options with manual transmission).

The official announcement of the modification of the Supra with manual transmission was published in the middle of this month, and now the manufacturer has declassified the novelty.

The car has received a six-speed «mechanics» iMT6, which works in a set with a 3.0-liter 387-horsepower «turbo six» (the European version — 340 hp).

By the way, BMW Z4 with a six-cylinder motor has no variants with a manual gearbox (three pedals are available only in base versions with a four-cylinder engine).

Sports car Toyota GR Supra with a manual has received reinforced clutch, and the ratio of the main pair is 3.46:1, while the variant with 8ACP — 3.15:1.

The new modification of the Supra has a few differences in the interior: the center console is designed differently, and the center tunnel is reviewed.

Otherwise, this car almost does not differ from the versions with «automatic», except that in profile you can see 19-inch wheels of the new design.

The company also told about «modest» update package for all versions of GR Supra: now sport cars have readjusted booster brakes, and installed new shock absorbers and stiffer bushings of stabilizers.

It should be noted that sales of manual versions will start in Europe in the summer of this year, and cars will reach dealers in the U.S. and Japan in the fall. Prices of Toyota GR Supra with manual transmission will be announced later.
