Volkswagen has shown an electric off-road concept car ID.Xtreme: it may go into production.

Germans have presented a conceptual electric SUV Volkswagen ID.Xtreme.

The car was created to study the reaction of fans of the brand: if the feedback is positive, it may well go into production.

It is reported that the prototype was based on the production ID.4 GTX, namely one of the test examples of the model. This allowed the Germans to save money on its development.

Donor car has undergone a number of changes. So, outside it received a special body painting and a number of offroad accessories.

Recognize the show car by the presence of a front power bar and LED «chandelier» on the roof.

It also has extended wheel arches (+ 50 mm), pads for which were printed on a 3D printer.

And also the car is set on 18-inch «tooth» wheels, and its interior is notable for faux suede trim and the presence of catchy orange accents.

Like the mentioned VW ID.4 GTX, the off-road concept car ID.Xtreme is built on a modular electric platform MEB, but its power plant is slightly different.

The rear electric motor in the car was replaced with a more powerful one. Plus the Germans updated the software of the electronic control unit.

As a result, the total output of front and rear units rose to 388 hp, while on the production car they give «only» 299 powers. Volkswagen ID.Xtreme 2023.

There is no information about the change of dynamic characteristics. What about the traction battery, it is standard here, and even a «used» one — it came to the concept from the original test car.

Since the prototype is designed for outdoor activities, the Germans have additionally reconfigured its chassis, improving its cross-country ability out of public roads.

In particular, the VW ID.Xtreme has received a rally chassis with aluminum underbody protection and increased ground clearance. Only time will tell if the commercial version of the concept will see the light of day.
