The new Volkswagen Lamando L: liftback with frameless doors.

We have not seen yet such a Volkswagen! And we will hardly see it alive, as well as Europeans or Americans.

This Volkswagen Lamando L is designed specifically for China, and will be produced by a joint venture SAIC-Volkswagen. But the car really turned out spectacular.

Before the Lamando was a sedan: the first generation model appeared in 2014 and became an alternative to the traditional sedans of the brand.

The squat body, sporty entourage and unconventional turbo engines (including 2.0 TSI in the GTS version) were supposed to attract a young audience.

At first it managed to sell 130-140 thousand cars a year, although then the demand fell to 66 thousand. And here is the second generation.

The company contrasts the new Volkswagen Lamando L with the twin hatchbacks Honda Civic and Integra, which have a bright image in China.

Now it is a five-door liftback with frameless side doors and unusual for the brand design: flattened nose, slanted headlights and full-width grille bumper we have not yet seen on the Volkswagen.

The front and rear emblems glow together with the parking lights.

The second generation of Lamando noticeably grew in length: 4784 mm versus 4615 mm in old sedan and 4689 mm in related Skoda Octavia liftback.

However, the conceptually similar Volkswagen Arteon is a little bit longer (4,866 mm).

The width of the new five-door is 1831 mm, height — 1469 mm and wheelbase — 2731 mm. The wheels can have a seating diameter of up to 18 inches.

The basis is based on the MQB Evo modular platform, with a multi wishbone suspension installed at the rear by default.

So far, only the base version with a turbocharged 1.4 TSI (150 hp), which is combined with a «dry» seven-speed «robot» DSG is presented.

But later on the Lamando L will show more powerful two-liter version.

Five-seater interior is made of the same set of elements as in other modern MQB-models, with one important exception.

The dashboard here does not have a visor and visually united with the display of the media system: until now, Volkswagen shunned such architecture, but in China, nevertheless not resist.

Options include a projection screen, Beats audio system, sunroof, electric front seats, rearview camera and adaptive cruise control.

On the Chinese market, the new Volkswagen Lamando L will appear in the spring. Now the outgoing first-generation sedan here costs from $24,000, but the liftback will probably be more expensive.
