Volkswagen Polo 2022: matrix headlights and track autopilot.

In the Russian market, the Volkswagen Polo is now presented in the body of a liftback, and this car is the closest relative of the Skoda Rapid model.

In Europe, the Polo is sold in the compact hatchback format, which went into the third generation about four years ago and is now preparing to debut in an updated form.

Restyling brought the five-door a new body design, better finish and improved electronic equipment.

Acceptance of orders for the model will start in May, and the finished cars will reach car dealerships closer to the end of the summer of 2021. Prices will start at about 16 thousand euros.

Appearance changes

Outside, the new 2022 Volkswagen Polo is easily recognizable by its redesigned headlights and a different grille configuration.

The aft part of the hatchback attracts attention with new lights with original graphics and additional sections on the fifth door.

All the lighting equipment for the five-door is now diode by default, and in older trim levels IQ.Light matrix headlights are offered.

The novelty was shown in the most expensive version of the R-Line, which is distinguished by a special body kit, black glossy decor of body elements and large rims (up to 17 inches).

There are three simpler versions: basic Polo, Life and Style.

Equipment

In the Polo salon, improvements are of a local nature. One of the main innovations is the replacement of the analogue scale of devices with a digital one.

Its size, depending on the version, is 8 or 10.25 inches. A choice between several multimedia systems is also available.

The simplest one — Composition Media — has a 6.5-inch display, the more advanced Ready2Discover media center is equipped with an 8-inch screen, and as an option, an infotainment complex based on the MIB3 architecture with a 9.2-inch touchscreen is offered.

In addition to the already listed equipment, the restyled hatchback relies on a climate control unit with touch buttons, wireless charging for smartphones, a rear-view camera, interior lighting, USB ports for rear passengers.

The list of available electronic assistance systems includes automatic braking, lane keeping and parking assist.

Plus, it adds the Travel Assist road autopilot, which is an extended version of the radar cruise control.

Another innovation in terms of safety is the introduction of a central airbag, which, when deployed, is deployed between the driver and front passenger, preventing them from colliding.

It will be possible to buy a Polo hatchback in Europe only with three-cylinder gasoline engines. Aggregates are offered to choose from:

1.0 MPI (80 HP, 93 Nm);
1.0 TSI (95 HP, 175 Nm);
1.0 TSI (110 HP, 200 Nm);
1.0 TGI (90 HP, 160 Nm).

«Junior» aspirated is combined only with a 5-speed manual transmission.

The turbocharged 1.0 TSI engine, regardless of the boost, can be paired with a 7-speed «robot» DSG, and a manual transmission is also available for the 95-horsepower version.

The 1.0 TGI gas engine forms a tandem with the 6MKPP.
