Volkswagen Touareg R 2021 — top hybrid Tuareg.

Before the start of the next Geneva Motor Show, the most powerful version of the Touareg crossover, marked with the letter R, was announced.

The novelty differs from other representatives of the family by the original body decor and specific interior trim, but the main «chip» of the model is still a hybrid power plant based on a 3.0-liter V6 TFSI turbo unit power of 340 h.p.

The new Volkswagen Touareg R 2021 will enter the European market in the second half of this year, the price of the car will be at least 110 thousand euros.

Exterior design

The proper assertiveness and aggression of the appearance of the hybrid Tuareg is provided by the Black Style package and bumpers decorated in R-style.

The black color is typical for most of the body elements: the radiator grille, side glass edging, mirror housings and bumper covers.

The R logo is also black and the taillights are darkened. Well, in order to indicate the hybrid essence of the modification, the eHYBRID nameplate is placed on the tailgate.

The new Touareg R gets 20-inch Braga wheels as standard. For a surcharge, they can be replaced with 21-inch Suzuka wheels or 22-inch Estoril wheels.

Also, an exclusive body color Lapiz Blue Metallic has been prepared specially for the novelty, which will be included in the list of options.

Interior and equipment

The interior of the powerful R-version of the Tuareg is distinguished by a special trim using Vienna leather (seats), High Gloss Black and Silver Look accents (center console), decorative aluminum inserts Silver Wave (front panel and door cards).

Contrasting stitching is obligatory: in the “base” it is silver-gray, in the “senior” trim levels — blue. The R branding embellishes the steering wheel, seat headrests, side sills and floor mats.

The electronic and technical equipment of the top-end hybrid modification of the Volkswagen Touareg R corresponds to the expensive versions of the crossover with classic engines.

This means that the model has IQ.Light LED matrix optics in its arsenal, Innovision Cockpit digital cockpit with two large screens (12 «instrument panel and 15» media center display), four-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof.

Dynaudio 780 W acoustics are available as an option.

In the list of electronic assistants new items appear two newest for Tuareg active safety systems.

This is the adaptive cruise control Travel Assist, working at speeds up to 250 km / h, and the assistant when maneuvering with a trailer Trailer Assist.

In addition, the model is equipped with Night Vision, Front Cross Traffic Assist, Lane Assist and Dynamic Road Sign Display.

Despite the fact that the Tuareg with the R prefix is ​​crammed with a mass of advanced equipment, the power plant of the crossover is of the greatest interest.

It is based on a V6 3.0 TFSI turbo engine (340 hp, 450 Nm), assisted by a 136 hp electric motor integrated into an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The combined output of the hybrid system is 462 hp. and 700 Nm, that is, it produces exactly the same amount of traction as on the Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid model.

The transmission of the new Touareg R is an all-wheel drive type 4Motion.

Between the axles there is an asymmetrical self-locking differential, which is capable of directing up to 70% of the torque forward, and up to 80% backward.

The proportion is determined, among other things, by the selected driving mode, of which there are seven to five for driving on the road (Eco, Comfort, Normal, Sport, Individual) and two off-road (Offroad and Snow).

A fully charged traction battery with a capacity of 14.1 kW * h allows the hybrid Tuareg to overcome no more than 48 km on one electric traction, while the maximum speed will be limited to 87 km / h.

After the internal combustion engine is turned on, the crossover will be able to accelerate to 250 km / h. Spurt to “hundreds” with the accelerator pedal recessed into the floor will take about 5 seconds for the “erka”.

Well, we also focus on the fact that with a sufficient battery charge, the new Touareg R starts moving in electric E-Mode.

The gasoline engine is only switched on when accelerating rapidly or exceeding the speed threshold of 140 km / h.

By the way, the use of the internal combustion engine is not required when towing a trailer, the mass of which can reach 3.5 tons.
