Mazda MX-5 2024: updated roadster presented.

The updated Mazda MX-5 roadster 2024 model year has been presented in Japan (another name in the Japanese market is Mazda Roadster).

The “two-door” has a refreshed exterior and interior, and also has minor technical improvements.

So, the MX-5 2024 roadster received new front LED optics with built-in daytime running lights (previously they were integrated into the bumper).

The taillights have also been updated, but the shape remains the same.

The radiator grille has also been slightly changed; it now has a built-in radar sensor for adaptive cruise control, indicators have appeared at the rear, and the set of electronic assistants has been expanded.

For example, when driving in reverse, the car can automatically stop if an object is detected in the way; the function works at speeds up to 15 km/h).

Other exterior changes include new wheels (in sizes 16 and 17 inches), and the color range of the body has been expanded by adding an “aero-gray” tint.

In the cabin, the most noticeable change is the new multimedia complex with an 8.8-inch display, which replaced, in fact, analog multimedia.

The dashboard has also been slightly updated, and there are also modern USB Type-C connectors.

A new vintage beige interior color scheme has been added (including the soft top), which the manufacturer says is reminiscent of classic roadsters of the past.

The basic technology of the 2024 Mazda MX-5 Roadster remains the same.

Under the hood there is still a 2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine, available in two versions: 158 hp and 184 hp. Paired with a manual transmission or automatic transmission.

There is also a younger modification with a 1.5-liter engine producing 131 hp (but during the update its output increased by a slight 4 hp).

The younger unit also comes in conjunction with a “mechanics” or “automatic”. All versions have drive, naturally only rear-wheel drive.

Improvements include the addition of an asymmetric limited-slip differential (LSD), which provides improved stability for versions with a six-speed manual transmission.

The electric power steering has also been reconfigured, which, according to the manufacturer, allows for “an even more natural and pure connection between the driver and the car.”

A DSC-Track mode has also been added, which stabilizes the car only in the most extreme cases (apparently, like MDM in BMW M cars).

In Japan, sales of the updated Mazda MX-5 Roadster (Mazda Roadster) will begin in January 2024, followed by the debut of the global version for Europe and the USA.

The current Mazda MX-5 debuted in 2015. During its life cycle, the “two-door” was modernized several times, the last one in 2021.

Rumor has it that the next generation of Miata will become an electric car due to stricter emissions regulations.
An interesting fact: the roadster was once officially sold in Russia, namely in the third generation NC, until 2015.
