BYD Han EV 2022. The electric BYD Han EV surprised with a swivel screen and good handling.

The world premiere of the new sedan BYD Han has taken place at the April motor show in Beijing.

In domestic (Chinese) market sales of the model have started in the third quarter of the same year, and first there was an electric version EV, and after some time — a hybrid DM.

It will not be possible to buy such a car in Russia officially, but «gray» importers are ready to bring the car, the price will make from 4 to 5.5 million rubles.


Externally, the BYD Han 2021 is similar to the conceptual hybrid supercar BYD e-Seed GT, shown by the Chinese in April of the 19th.

In particular, the serial version has the same impetuous body design with a sloping roof, though doors of «wing-butterfly» type it is not supposed to have.

Note that Wolfgang Egger, who used to work at the Volkswagen Group, is responsible for the sedan’s design.

He made a four-door in the new corporate brand style called «Dragon Face», which is characterized by the presence of predatory «face» with expressive headlights.

At the same time the front end of the body of electric and hybrid modifications differ from each other quite dramatically: these cars have different bumpers, fenders, hood and even the shape of headlights.

BYD Han 2021 belongs to the premium class, so the interior of the four-door is trimmed mainly with expensive materials, including Nappa leather, as well as decorative inserts of aluminum and natural wood.

The main feature of the interior is a 15.6-inch multimedia touchscreen.

It is made rotating, that is, it can be used both horizontally and vertically.

By the way, you do not need to unfold it manually — everything is done with a special button on the steering wheel.

Plus the flagship four-door got 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, and in the folding armrest rear couch is another tablet, from which passengers in the second row can control music, climate and a number of other functions.

The base electric BYD Han EV has one electric motor. It is installed on the front axle and develops 222 hp. (330 Nm), while receiving energy for its work from a lithium-iron phosphate battery Blade with a capacity of 65 kWh. The latter is capable of providing a range of up to 506 km (according to the NEDC cycle).

The «medium» variant has the same engine, but the battery is already more capacious — 76.8 kWh, due to which one can drive up to 605 kilometers without recharging.

The top version of the Han EV is all-wheel drive. In addition to a higher-capacity battery, it is also entitled to an additional electric motor on the rear axle. The latter develops 272 hp. (350 Nm), while the total output of units reaches 494 hp and 680 Nm of torque. Acceleration from a place to a hundred is possible in 3.9 seconds, and the maximum speed is limited at 180 km/h.

As for the hybrid BYD Han DM, a 2.0-liter gasoline turbo four with 192 hp (320 Nm) is announced for it. (320 Nm), as well as installed on the rear axle of 245 horsepower (380 Nm).

In the aggregate these units give out 436 «horsepower» and 650 Nm of torque, allowing four-door to change a first hundred for 4.7 seconds.

Feelings behind a steering wheel

Electric BYD Han EV boasts excellent handling: the sedan clearly responds to the steering wheel and confidently passes steep turns at speed.

With dynamics, everything is also in order, especially if we talk about the top-end twin-motor modification.

The first independent tests showed that the top model is really able to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in the time specified by the manufacturer.

But you should not rely on the range indicated in the data sheet because the figure in this column is calculated according to the NEDC cycle which is far from reality.

Actually, the all-wheel drive electric car is capable to drive about 2/3 of the declared kilometers without recharging. As for ride smoothness, here again the «Chinese» is able to surprise pleasantly.

The suspension of the new BYD Han EV is short-running, but powerful enough, especially pleasing while driving through «lying policemen», in front of which you can not dump much.

But it is better to overcome sharp ledges accurately — tough and unpleasant pokes are transferred to the body from them.

Despite of obviously sports design of the interior, forward armchairs of the sedan are comfortable first of all.

They have developed, but unobtrusive lateral support, and also a wide range of adjustments. At the same time, the height adjustment range of the steering wheel leaves much to be desired.

Because of this it can be difficult for some drivers to find a seat exactly «for them».

On the back row there is a place for legs almost like in a limousine, but the ceiling is not particularly high: the Chinese sedan is obviously not designed for taller passengers.

In general, the second row is quite comfortable, and one can sit here even in three (the central tunnel is expressed weakly).
