Chevrolet Onix sedan: start of mass production in Uzbekistan and a new top version.

In a neighboring country, the budget “four-door” is presented with two engines to choose from.

Test production of Chevrolet Onix sedans started in Uzbekistan in the middle of last year, and in November, UzAuto Motors opened orders.

By the way, in the neighboring country, the novelty caused a stir: as it was then reported, in just one day the model collected about 28,000 applications.

So, now the start of mass production at the head plant located in Asaka has been announced.

It is reported that the production of 1.5 thousand parts for Onyx has been launched at 200 Uzbek enterprises, and that now the level of localization of the “four-door” is 50%, and by the end of this year this figure is planned to be increased to 70%.

In total, UzAuto spent about $427.6 million on the development of the GEM project.

A «four-door» with a gasoline three-cylinder «aspirated» 1.2 is available.

Its turbo version with 90 and 132 hp. respectively (engines are also produced locally).

The atmospheric engine is combined with a five-speed “mechanics”, the “turbo engine” is equipped with a classic six-speed “automatic”.

At the start of accepting orders, the sedan was offered in five trim levels, but UzAuto then clarified that the cheapest one (it is called Simplified) would be put into production only with a sufficient number of applications.

This version is not in the current price list, so we consider the LS as the basic version, in its arsenal there are 15-inch wheels, a pair of airbags, ABS and ESC, air conditioning.

More expensive trim levels have an 8-inch multimedia system, a rearview camera, heated front seats, rear parking sensors and cruise control.

Well, the new top version of Premier (it appeared only this year) is another 16-inch wheels of the original design, projection headlights, an electric sunroof, wireless charging for a smartphone, heated all seats, climate control, front parking sensors, parking assistant (parallel and perpendicular) and monitoring system of «blind» zones.

According to the official local website of Chevrolet, the Onix sedan in the LS version, in terms of our money at the current rate, will cost about 973,000 rubles, the top version of the Premier costs somewhere from 1,354,000 rubles.

Note that the prices announced last year were lower, but they did not include VAT then.

Meanwhile, later the Chevy four-door will also be made in Kazakhstan: the Kostanay Allur plant will establish a small-scale assembly.

As for Russia, before the start of the well-known events, we were waiting for the Uzbek-made Chevrolet Onix (as well as the Tracker crossover).

However, it is possible that one of the dealers will decide to arrange supplies of Onyx under the scheme of parallel imports.
