Skoda Fabia 2022: increased dimensions and new options.
On May 4, the 4th generation Skoda Fabia hatchback was presented at the DOX Center for Contemporary Arts.

The 2022 model year car has moved to the new MQB-A0 platform, thanks to which it has seriously grown in size and acquired a more spacious trunk.

Also, the five-door was transformed externally and received expanded equipment. Sales of the new Fabia will start on the European market in September 2021.

The hatchback will be offered in three trim levels — Active, Ambition and Style, and the initial version should not be more expensive than the current 14,450 euros. The Fabia Combi station wagon will debut at a later date.

New look

With the change of generations, the model retained the usual body design with an abundance of faceted shapes, but there are many changes in the details.

At the front, the layout of the headlights, radiator grill and bumper has been revised. New lights have appeared on the stern, partially located on the tailgate.

The front optics are diode by default, and the back is optional.

A sporty silhouette and aggressive ribbing, for example, on the same bonnet, add excitement to Fabia’s appearance.

An interesting design touch is the lines on the front doors, stylized as a triangle of the Czech flag.

The body of the new generation hatchback has better streamlining due to aerodynamically optimized wheels and active flaps in the lower air intake of the front bumper.

The decrease in drag is expressed in the Cd coefficient reduced from 0.32 to 0.28.

The model has grown quite significantly. The wheelbase has increased immediately by 94 mm (up to 2564 mm), and the length and width — by 111 and 48 mm, respectively (up to 4108 and 1780 mm).

Only the height has become smaller, reduced to 1459 mm (minus 8 mm). The five-door will receive alloy wheels ranging in size from 14 to 18 inches in nine versions (plus stampings are available in 14 and 15 inches).

The body color palette also has nine shades, of which two are new — Phoenix Orange and Graphite Gray.

The roof, mirror caps and grille surround are available in contrasting colors Graphite Gray and Black Magic with pearlescent effect.

Interior and equipment

Fabia’s salon has changed dramatically. The side vents on the front panel are now round in shape, and the central ones, although rectangular, are located under the main display of the media center (they used to be on top).

The screen size is 6.5 (Swing), 8 (Bolero) or 9.2 (Amundsen) inches. The most advanced head unit is equipped with a built-in SIM card, navigator, gesture control and Laura voice assistant.

Wireless integration of smartphones via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay interfaces is also available in simpler versions of multimedia systems. Phone Box induction charging is available as an option.

The expanded configuration of the 2022 Skoda Fabia includes a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, heated steering wheel and windshield, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic roof, background lighting with additional diodes in the area of ​​the door handles.

Adaptive cruise control Travel Assist has been added to the list of electronic assistants, and the maximum number of airbags has increased to nine after the introduction of a knee airbag for the driver and side airbags for rear passengers.

Also, the new Fabia has a lot of Simply Clever solutions.

Among them are pockets for the phone on the backs of the front seats, a USB-C connector next to the rear-view mirror, a niche for an umbrella in the driver’s door, a storage box for small items in the transmission tunnel of the second row of seats, hooks and latches on the side walls of the trunk.

The cargo compartment, by the way, has become more spacious in the hatchback. Its volume has grown from 330-1150 liters to 380-1190 liters.

The platform change did not lead to a revision of the Fabia motor range. It still includes only gasoline units of the Evo series. It:

The 1.5 TSI engine is interesting in that it is equipped with a system for deactivating two cylinders at low load. If you use all the power of the engine, you can spurt to «hundreds» in 7.9 seconds and reach a speed of 225 km / h.
