A secret software update boosts the 2023 Porsche Taycan Turbo S to incredible speeds.

Porsche, known for its penchant for subtle changes, has introduced a number of minor software updates to the Taycan Turbo S over the past two years, resulting in noticeable improvements in performance.

As the brand’s first modern electric vehicle, the Taycan Turbo S has received accelerated improvements in independent testing, achieving a top speed of 150 mph (241 km/h) a full second faster than two years ago.

Recent testing has shown improved acceleration performance at various speed levels, demonstrating faster times to 90 mph (145 km/h), 120 mph (193 km/h) and more efficient quarter mile completion, completing the distance in 10. 3 seconds at 132 mph (212 km/h) compared to the previous 10.5 seconds at 130 mph (209 km/h).

Interestingly, the 0-60 mph (96 km/h) acceleration time remains unchanged at 2.4 seconds, suggesting that the «Overboost» feature is at the heart of the improved performance.

The Overboost feature allows the electric motor to process excess power for a short time, and Porsche, initially concerned about potential engine damage, limited the feature to three seconds.

However, once the automaker became confident in the durability of its electric motors through user data and observations, the duration of the Overboost function was increased to 10 seconds.

The Taycan Turbo S gets this improved acceleration in Sport Plus mode, under launch control.

While Porsche hasn’t announced these updates, they represent the brand’s commitment to improving the EV over time, improving the Taycan Turbo S’s performance without sacrificing durability.

The zero-emission Taycan Turbo S is the most powerful version of Porsche’s electric range and also one of the fastest sports cars in production.
