Ford has unveiled the 2025 Ford Ranger plug-in hybrid with a range of 45 kilometers.

The midsize pickup gets an electrified powertrain based on the 2.3-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine without sacrificing its payload or towing capabilities.

Ford has expanded its Ranger midsize pickup lineup with a plug-in hybrid version due in early 2025.

The Ranger Hybrid offers a zero-emission range of more than 45 km without relying on charging infrastructure for long journeys.

They say that the electrified pickup will retain the towing, lifting and off-road capabilities of its ICE-powered counterpart.

The powertrain combines a turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine with an electric motor and an unknown battery capacity.

Ford didn’t reveal specifications, but promised the plug-in hybrid system will deliver «more torque than any other Ranger.»

This means it will outperform the 600Nm of the 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel.

Thanks to electric supercharging, the total power of the hybrid installation will be higher than 270 hp. standard 2.3-liter Ecoboost engine.

The electric range of over 45km is similar to the Kuga PHEV, which uses a 14.4kWh battery, although the Ranger has an all-wheel drive system, a heavier body and poorer aerodynamics than the compact SUV.

In terms of braked towing capability, Ford is targeting the same 3,500kg figure for the ICE-powered Ranger.

The company says the battery can power tools and appliances on a jobsite or at a remote campsite.

A visually easier way to differentiate the electrified Ranger from the rest of the lineup is the charging port mounted next to the fuel filler cap.

Other features of the version include PHEV lettering on the side grilles and new 18-inch alloy wheel designs.

The cabin will receive new graphics showing battery charge status and selectable driving modes. The equipment will also include a variety of assistants.

The Ranger PHEV will enter production in late 2024. The first deliveries are expected in early 2025.

The model has been officially confirmed for Europe, Australia and the UK, but other markets may follow.
