BMW has officially unveiled the new eighth-generation 5-Series sedan.

The premiere of the new 2024 BMW 5-Series sedan of the eighth generation took place in Europe.

Judging by the published photographs, the design of the exterior and interior has undergone evolutionary development. But, at the same time, the sedan became more technologically advanced and came out in a fully electric form under the i5 index.

At first, the Bavarian novelty will be presented with two 2-liter turbocharged engines.

The declared power of these units is 259 and 380 hp.

The first motor can also be purchased with rear-wheel drive, and the second will be supplied exclusively with all-wheel drive.

Over time, the range of engines will be replenished with new units, including a hybrid installation.

The electric version is also available in two versions.

The base rear-engined version produces up to 340 hp, and the twin-engine modification develops 598 hp.

The manufacturer has not yet declassified a complete list of options. But representatives of the Bavarian brand noted that, for example, the sedan will offer customers the opportunity to connect to online games, and the interior of the car is lined with artificial materials.

The 2024 BMW 5-Series is finally revealed. The all-electric i5 M60 has appeared in the line of this family.

The electric i5 and the ICE-powered 5-Series are released together. Apart from the transmission and grilles, it’s the same car.

Both are built on the BMW CLAR platform rather than the next generation Neue Klasse architecture, which won’t be ready until 2025.

In the starting version, the model squeezes out 335 hp. and 400 Nm, which can accelerate you to 97 km/h in 5.7 seconds.

Both the i5 and 5-Series are heat pump-equipped, powered by the same 84.3kWh underfloor battery pack, and can draw 11kW AC or 205kW DC.

Thirty minutes of the latter will take you anywhere from 10 to 80 percent, and i5 buyers will get two years of free 30-minute fill-ups with Electrify America.

The eDrive 40 weighing 2,230 kg on 19-inch wheels gives 475 km of run, and the M60 weighing 2,380 kg has 412 km.

It appears that M60 drivers regularly use the Max Range emergency feature, which limits speed to 90 km/h.

A hybrid 5-Series variant will join the lineup in 2024, while the two ICEs that will be available this fall are mild hybrids.

The more modest of these is the 2.0-liter four in the 530i and 530i xDrive, which puts out 255 bhp. and 400 Nm, which is 7 hp. compared to the old 530i.

You can also opt for an inline-six for the 5-Series without waiting for the M5 to come out next year.

3.0-liter TwinPower six with 375 hp the 540i xDrive develops 40 hp. and can even reach 540 Nm with a 48-volt hybrid system.

Not only has the power of BMW gasoline engines increased. In length, the body stretched by 86.4 mm to 5060 mm. Of these, 2995 mm falls on the wheelbase, which has increased by 20 mm.

A more convenient screen layout in the cabin, gesture control and powerful voice support have made the iDrive rotary controller irrelevant.

The interior was decorated with trendy vegan leather seats. They join the options list along with a full panoramic roof.

The brand has announced an electric powertrain and iDrive 8.5, but there’s plenty more technology on board the new 5-Series, including access to the AirConsole platform.

It allows passengers to download and play games, but only when the car is immobilized.

Buyers of the I5 also get a 7-Series touchscreen interaction panel that extends across the dash and lets you control the climate system.

In the petrol version, this option is paid separately.
