Volkswagen ID.4 2022: the all-electric crossover with a higher degree of comfort.

For Volkswagen, the event of the year was the release of the brand’s first all-electric crossover, the Volkswagen ID.4 2022.

The novelty’s advantages include a harmonious combination of affordable price, a wide range of technical and electronic equipment, dynamic traction and speed characteristics of the electric power unit, and impressive mileage for its class without intermediate recharging.

Exterior

Restyling had little effect on the appearance of the novelty, the exception is a modified design of the front and rear.

In the front view, the new five-door body with reduced to 0,28 aerodynamic drag demonstrates:

wave reliefs of the sides rounded along the front edge of the hood;
trapezoidal blocks of front xenon or LED optics connected by a decorative lintel;
large ventilation diffusers located at the level of the massive bumper.

In the lower part of the front, the attention is attracted by the large-cell grid of the air intake and the silver protective trim of the small-sized plastic trim.

No less stylish and presentable looks electric VW 2022 on the photo in the side view.

In sight is typical crossover layout classic with a short engine compartment, gentle slope of the roof and strict verticality of the stern trim. In the structural properties of the body sides:

The silver half-perimeter and the three-element window sills rising to the rear struts;
wedge-shaped, interestingly designed rearview mirrors;
proportional ratio of stepped and wave body reliefs;
wheel arches equipped with protective plastic inserts and the «turbine» design of the aluminum composite rims.

The presence of certain off-road potential can be seen in the high fit of the body, compact overhangs and the presence of off-road attachments.

However, the new model of the branded range is not adapted for operation in extreme off-road conditions.

The Volkswagen ID.4 2022 looks stylish and presentable in every way in rear projection. In the spotlight:

The spoiler visor of the small-format rear window, complemented by the side struts;
interesting graphics of the LED lamps of the brake lights connected by a jumper;
ribbed profile of the wide bumper, monoblock metal-plastic bodykit.

The entourage also includes decorative chrome plating of the brand logo, as well as a set of recessed fog lamps.

Interior

The offered selection of interior trim materials consists of fabric, leather and leather trim options.

There are also good-quality plastics and decorating accents made of lightweight metal composite.

Already in the basic model of the electric crossover the number of mechanical activators of functional and comfort-forming equipment is reduced to a minimum.

Control and adjustment of standard options are made with the command sensors of the multifunction steering wheel and a touchpad located on the place of the central console media 10-inch display.

The perfection of the onboard electronics could be envied by similar models of higher price status.

There are exclusive parameters of multimedia equipment, climate control and navigation systems, equipped with special functionality of electronic assistants and security systems.

The compact tunnel is equipped with twin cup holders, a container for small luggage closed with a curtain, and an expanded list of organizers.

The electric crossover’s front seats offer premium seating and travel services, including a wide range of ventilation and heating adjustments, while the top versions offer several modes of vibrating massage.

The limited list of travel amenities is compensated for by the rear sofa with an armrest and plenty of personal space for each of the three adult occupants.

Capaciousness of the interior is combined with useful load volume of 545-liter luggage compartment.

The test drive confirmed the ergonomics of perfectly profiled seats, the effectiveness of interior sound insulation, the coherence and excellent interaction of components.

Specifications

Adapted to the design and layout features of the modular-universal platform MEB body five-door first generation formatted in the proportions of 4558 x 1852 and 1636 mm.

The length of the interaxle base of the chassis is 2766 mm and the clearance height is 210 mm.

The new Volkswagen ID.4 2022 model year presents the impeccable virtues of a comfortable spring suspension with adaptive shock absorbers, the effectiveness of front disc and drum rear brakes, stabilizers and safety systems.

Power equipment of basic model consists of installed on the rear axle of 204-horsepower electric motor with peak thrust of 310 N-m, running on a lithium-ion battery with capacity of 55 or 82 kWh.

The crossover reaches the first hundred in 8.5 seconds, with a top speed of up to 160 km/h. Range is 345 or 520 km, time to recharge modular lithium-ion battery up to 80% of capacity from a fixed terminal within 30 minutes.

All-wheel drive model with improved speed and other performance parameters is being prepared for production.

Features and prices

The 2022 Volkswagen ID.4 will hit the world market in nine modifications. Depending on the perfection of the equipment, the price will range from 36 to 45 thousand dollars.

The cost of the Russian modification starts from 3.6 million rubles.
