The classic sedan is available as an HEV hybrid, and a hydrogen car is also offered to customers.

So far, the new product is presented only in Toyota’s homeland, and the company does not expect mass sales there.

In its current sixteenth generation, the Toyota Crown model has become a separate family: in many countries they are already selling a sedan with a crossover image.

A five-door SUV with the Sport prefix has also launched in Japan; in addition to the market debut, the Estate is being prepared — a mixture of a station wagon and an SUV.

All of the above modifications are built on the GA-K platform and have a transverse engine and main front-wheel drive.

But the Crown Sedan presented today in the homeland of the brand is designed differently: this particular car, in fact, is the true heir to the Crowns.

The flagship four-door is based on the GA-L “trolley” with a longitudinal engine and rear-wheel drive.

The car has adaptive suspension. The length of the new classic Toyota Crown Sedan is 5030 mm, width – 1890 mm, height – 1475 mm, wheelbase – 3000 mm. Trunk volume – 450 liters.

For comparison, the dimensions of the deceased “fifteenth” Crown sedan: 4910/1800/1455 mm, the distance between the axles is 2920 mm.

Externally, the Crown Sedan has something in common with the rest of the family, but it also has its own features.

In particular, only this four-door received a solid radiator grille with vertical wedges.

Models are equipped with 19- or 20-inch wheels. At the same time, the Japanese were offered a sedan with a more aggressive body kit from Modellista.

The interior is designed like other current Crowns; inside there are visually combined screens for the multimedia system and the instrument panel (but the instruments themselves are recessed) and a rather strict climate control unit with physical buttons. The interior is decorated with expensive materials.

The backrests of the second row seats have an adjustable tilt, and a touch panel is built into the rear folding armrest, on which all the main settings are displayed (audio system and climate; electrical adjustments, heated and ventilated seats, etc.).

Of course, the list of equipment also includes a set of modern security systems.

In Japan, the Toyota Crown Sedan is available in two versions, both exclusively with rear-wheel drive.

The basic one is an HEV hybrid, that is, without the possibility of recharging from the mains.

The installation of such a four-door included a gasoline four-cylinder aspirated A25A-FXS 2.5 (185 hp) and a pair of electric motors.

The second modification is hydrogen (FCEV), with technology similar to the sister model Toyota Mirai: this Crown Sedan has a 182-horsepower electric motor (on the rear axle) and three hydrogen cylinders. The certified range at one gas station is 820 km.

Japanese dealers have already opened orders for the four-door, and the start of “live” sales is scheduled for November 13.

Each modification has only one version so far. The Toyota Crown Sedan HEV hybrid costs 7,300,000 yen, which is equivalent to approximately 4,500,000 rubles at the current exchange rate.

The FCEV hydrogen sedan will cost 8,300,000 yen (about 5,117,000 rubles). By the way, the Toyota Mirai is cheaper – from 7,106,000 yen (4,381,000 rubles).

In Japan, Toyota expects to sell 600 flagship sedans per month. Later, the rear-wheel drive Toyota Crown Sedan will reach other countries.
