Porsche does not hide the fact that in a year there will be a fully electric crossover on the market on the new PPE platform, but with the same name Macan.

For now, the company has prepared a serious update for gasoline versions. And do you know what? We do not want to part with them.

The course of Porsche, as well as all civilized car industry, for the next years is clear and straightforward: more electric modifications.

Four years ago, Stuttgart completely abandoned diesel engines, depriving the Russian market of the much-loved Cayenne on heavy fuel.

At the same time, they began to increase the number of E-Hybrid versions, and the first all-electric Taycan will appear in 2019.

VAG has begun work on a completely new modular platform PRE (Premium Platform Electric), on which, in the future, in addition to the Macan EV, many more models will be built. So we are living in a very interesting time, a time of global change.

The updated Porsche Macan has new bumpers with modified grille and different design for all versions, and the rear diffuser has changed.

Considerably expanded the «basic» set, and now it includes large size wheels (19, 20 and 21 inches) in seven new designs, LED headlights with PDLS system, Sport Design mirrors and new sidewall coverings with a three-dimensional pattern.

The «top» GTS version features 21-inch wheels, tinted LED headlights, a double trunk lid spoiler, red calipers, a GTS badge on the side, and a 10 mm lowered air suspension.

Four versions of the Porsche Macan are now available on the Russian market. Both base configuration, and MacanT, equipped with 265-horsepower four-cylinder engine (265 hp) and cost from 5,550,000 and 6,120,000 rubles, respectively.

Prices for Macan S with 380 hp twin-turbo V6 start at 6,680,000 rubles, and the «top» GTS with a boosted 440 hp unit is not cheaper than 7,710,00 rubles.

The options are very expensive: «panoramic» — 140 328 rubles, rear electronic blocking PTV — 126 649 rubles, ceramic brakes PCCB — 430 607 rubles, «music» Burmester — 303 957 rubles, carbon fiber pads on thresholds with illumination — 180 620 rubles.

For starters, the news that may seem sad: there will be no more Turbo version. But everything is not so simple.

Its replacement will be the Macan GTS. Previously, this variant was just a modification of the conventional Macan S with a 3.0-liter 380-horsepower V6 engine.

Now exactly GTS will become the most powerful Macan with new 2,9-liter biturbo engine (as, for example, on Panamera or Audi RS5), which is already 60 hp more powerful and 30 Nm more tractive.

One of the most comfortable saloons in the world with an ideal seating position, a clear cockpit feeling and a very decent quality of materials, generous leather, suede, carbon and aluminum trim.

It looks cool, though some of the decisions like the full touch panel on the center tunnel or the wireless «charging» and USB-C connectors hidden in the box are controversial. The new steering wheel from Taycan is a thing!

The Macan can’t be called spacious in the back, but with height of 182 cm I still fit «behind myself». But the equipment even in «top» is poor: there is no third zone of «climate» (only six steps of individual regulation of temperature a la BMW), there are not even pockets on backs of front seats, only an armrest, a high tunnel, air ducts and some jacks USB-C.

The trunk by the standards of the class is average — only 458 liters. But the backrest is folded into three parts, forming a maximum volume of 1503 liters.

It is not known, how long the last real petrol Macan will last.

Definitely it is clear — some time, it is quite possible, even more than five years.

All this time it will share the market with a new, completely electric crossover.

It is that term that Porsche gives us to demonstrate once again its engineering strength in the field of, so to say, «classical» car construction, to enjoy all this petrol-fuelled, almost ideal balance and steerability, to enter a new, already electric era. But there is still time. And there is the Macan GTS, which has become as good as never before.
